Enjoyable looks at the quiet countryside. Lots to see.

Love these images, there is something about black and white.

Visited Scotland in 2024 from New Zealand. Got to Edinburgh and a bit of the outskirts but nowhere near enough.

This definitely needs to be presented in book form. Bravo!

Thanks Kathy, will see what I can do

I believe Scotland is one of the best countries to be 'alone' and enjoy the surroundings, because there is always the opportunity to seek other people and connect. Lucky you!

Definitely. The Dutch have to build more land for flowers. Still, it is a 2.5 hour bus journey!

Excellent post and great photographs. How Can you not love mysterious circles, standing stones and a good looking cow! Great set!

Thanks Søren! And thanks to peninsulas and midges for making it difficult for tourists.

Nicely done, Neil. Not sure I agree wholeheartedly about B&W, but that's a long topic. Do you know William Least Heat Moon's PrairyErth: A Deep Map? It's about the Flint Hills of Kansas, and is a text, not photography, but it's stance is quite similar. An effort to think geologically, biologically, historically, economically, etc., etc. about a single place. Also rather magical place with poor soil, fwiw, so much of the last remaining natural prairie is there. Worth taking a look.

Thanks and thanks for the tip! Stone Voices is also well worth a look

I love Inveraray, Loch Fyne and the surrounding area. We were there for our second visit last year. Great photos, Neil.

Thanks Paul. It is a glorious area and can’t wait to go back … or even further west.

I lived in Perth for the last 5 years of the 1990s and always look forward to visiting old haunts and finding new places to photograph in Scotland.

Lovely photos and thoughts. Lots of Scotland feels quite deeply, and a little darkly, magical.

Thanks. And welcome back! Good to see you here.

Great post - enjoyed both words and photos. I was in Scotland for a week recently, on a photography workshop way up in Assynt, and the geography and sense of place were like nothing else I know.

Ah wonderful! Let me know the next time you are passing through.

Thank you kindly! Not sure when, but maybe in a year or so :-)
