My self portrait series was quite influenced by her— documenting living with an illness. Like Golding I try to keep them honest and raw. What does that mean technically? I font change clothes for a shoot, I want to document me now like reality photography. So you’re in this moment and you realize you want to photograph it, you set the timer and go back to doing what you were. Or if you use those old automatic shutter clickers, those are a pain because I’ve never found one long enough so the camera has to be very close to me. I stage only in the sense that I try to quickly get back in position before the timer goes off, continuing what I was— be it smoking or sleeping or showering even
